Lauren Gilbertson is an O'ahu, Hawaii based Producer, who focuses on advertising and video production. Her film Whale Aware was produced as her undergraduate thesis film for The Art Institute of California – San Francisco in 2014. The idea for her documentary ‘Whale Aware’ came from her time working as an intern at Greenpeace USA. While at Greenpeace, someone told her that NOAA was creating a phone application to protect whales from ship strikes while in busy shipping lanes. She was immediately intrigued because of her passion for ocean conservation and her addiction to her iPhone. She also worked on the HBO documentary Toxic Hot Seat, which examines the possible health dangers of chemical flame retardants currently used in upholstered furniture made in the USA.
Lauren is a New Jersey native and moved to O'ahu in 2018. She is an advanced scuba diver, certified in search and rescue and Nitrox diving. She is a shark lover and volunteers as a Great White Shark Naturalist with the Gulf of the Farallones as well as numerous other ocean conservation organizations.
